The Minnesota State Fair 2011 – Root Beer Floats

Horse topiary

The Minnesota State Fair ends today.  I visited the fair on Saturday and indulged in “junk foods” like root beer float, (Love it.) buffalo wings (Hot!) Swedish coffee (weak) and Tiny Tim Donuts. (Yum!) 50 years at the Fair with their original recipe.

We did lots of walking and people watching. Made a visit to the handicrafts and food competition building!

The Minnesota State Fair is the 2nd largest in the USA.

It covers some 360 acres and has the reputation of being “The Great Minnesota Get Together”.

Just imagine you entered your best recipe in one of the many categories of the fair.  What fun!  There are competitions for pies with Pillsbury brand pie dough, Fleischman’s yeast recipe’s, King Arthur Flour brand breads. Then there are the cookies, bars, and cake competitions.  (Looks good enough to eat, right?)

The jewels of the competition were the jams and jelly’s section.

Last but not least, the cream and jelly rolled cakes are a recipe that Vivi-Anne would make up in a trice!  These look pretty nice.  Just a taste, please?

The Epiphany Dining Hall will close it doors at 8:00 p.m. for the last time.  I liked their fried chicken. The space will be taken over by the Minnesota Wine people.

Happy Fair To you!
