Will fertilizer of the animal kind help save the world?

Will fertilizer of the animal kind help save the world?  Good News to counter the doomsday prediction. (You know, Saturday, May 21, 2011.)

“Book Excerpt: Holy Shit, Managing Manure to Save Mankind”

By Gene Logsdon

“I half-jokingly suggested about a year ago that animal manure—used livestock, horse, and chicken bedding—was going to be the hottest commodity on the Chicago Board of Trade one of these days.”

This is a fascinating read about the state of the price of fertilizers, food quality and a return to using animal manure by farmers.  Who would have thunk it?  It’s good news on a couple of levels.

Encouraging recycling of animal waste instead of putting it in our rivers and water supply is so sane.  Apparently, crop yields are higher with this “natural” product.
